Since The Blueprint I think Jay-Z’s been relatively hit and miss; at no point has an entire album blown me away, and simultaneously no single track has blown me away like those from The Blueprint did. Unsuprisingly when I heard of this collaboration with Rihanna, and Kanye West, I was excited. An excitement that was only parallelled with worry that this would be a huge let down.
‘Run This Town’ is anything but a disappointment; a slight latecomer for a track of the summer, but an instant summer classic nonetheless. Brilliant guitar sampling, the usual standard of Kanye West’s beats, Rihanna’s as-ever brilliant vocals, and a rap from Jay-Z that, combined with last month’s ‘Death of the Auto-Tune’, truly excite and set a standard for forthcoming ‘The Blueprint 3’.
